Absalon declares a focused Android- and Windows-based mobility strategy for its coming release

Posted: October 03, 2011

Absalon International announced today that in its upcoming mid-release of Absalon CRM the mobility focus will be in Android and Windows-based devices. Absalon customers running Windows devices already have access to 100% of the features and functionality on slate devices, without compromising with performance. (See below for direct links to these devices)

There is a growing need for new mobile devices for mobile sales forces, especially in emerging markets. In response, Absalon has made tests in order to meet these needs. These tests conclude that the only viable options for mobile sales forces, within Life Science and Consumer Goods, are Android and Windows based devices.

The primary reasons are:

  • Multiple vendors on devices: With multiple vendors on devices, competition has already created more variety, innovation, device longevity and better price/performance ratio than the alternative(s).
  • Development platforms for Business Applications: these two platforms have open SDK:s, easy ways to deploy and maintain business applications and a healthy eco-system of different development partners.
  • Manageability: A lot of the hidden costs from mobile devices come from the end-users and companies’ ability to manage the devices and service them. Neither Android nor Windows-based devices require devices to be managed via sync-programs developed for the B2C-market and there is a healthy chain of service providers to support any faulty devices.
  • Rich Applications: The Android and Windows-based devices offer rich applications both through direct access over the Internet or as an “App”. Adobe Flash or Silverlight are example of technologies that can be used.
  • Risk Management: With multiple vendors on devices, applications etc. the customers don’t put all the eggs in one basket.

“There is a lot of buzz and hype within Life Science and Consumer Goods of which devices can or should be used in the mobile sales forces. Our tests and investigations have shown, that with the customer needs in mind, they will benefit from open platforms where several vendors compete, innovate and pressure the costs for these devices. It’s especially important that our customer’s mobile strategy doesn’t mean increased costs or drastically higher TCO, but the opposite” said Sebastian Merlöv, CEO, Absalon International.
